An art carnival with the theme of “enjoying fishing fun in the New Year at the beautiful peninsula” was held on December 28 at the “Dajing Image” Fishing Culture Museum in Xiashan Village, Qiangjiao Town of Ninghai County. With the display of colorful marine creatures, adorable childlike paintings, and intricate fishing nets, the carnival attracted many tourists.
“The old house is full of surprises to us.” exclaimed a Mr. Ge, who came with his wife and kid to the carnival. The family lingered among the creative works, enjoying the visual beauty presented in every corner.
A major highlight of this carnival event is making good use of local materials and turning waste into treasure.
Under the guidance of the resident artists, the villagers worked together. Branches, yarns, and shells are pieced together to create a “flying fish” that tells the story of the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature; old newspapers and clay sculptures are used to create “muscle rabbits”, advocating the concepts of circular economy and sustainable development; the unused sewage pipes are equipped with safety helmets to be transformed into “plumbers”, telling stories of small joys and big dreams in life, to remind people of searching for the beauty around them.
Why would they organize such a event to greet the coming new year? According to Zhou Limin, the operation manager of “Dajing Image”, on the one hand, it is to create a festive atmosphere and add new visual arts points to the fishing village; on the other hand, through the integration of culture and tourism, new paths of “creativity entering old houses” will be explored to promote the dissemination of environmental protection concepts in the tourism industry of Ninghai Bay.
To the delight of Zhou Limin, the event has received constant positive reviews from a number of visitors. Through innovation, the discarded marine debris and household items have been transformed into exquisite works of art.
The old houses have become creative spaces to tell the stories of the fishing village. In recent years, Qiangjiao Town has actively explored the path of green development, vigorously promoted the protection and utilization of traditional villages, and creatively opened up various possibilities for the revitalization and utilization of old houses through the integration of culture and tourism. The “creativity entering old houses” campaign has not only provided tourists with a window to understand local marine culture, but also injected new vitality into the local rural development.
“The wonderful collision of art and environmental protection is believed to usher in a better new year”, said Huang Yunxia, curator of the carnival.
