“Dragon Parade on the 18th of the First Month”
February 15th was the 18th day of the first lunar month, when a traditional folk event that has been passed down for over 770 years—”Dragon Parade”—took place in the ancient village of Xian'ao in Changjie Town, Ninghai County. A white dragon, 3.8 meters tall and 32 meters long, and a green dragon, 3.5 meters tall and 39 meters long, were carried by more than a hundred strong men, parading through the village.In the customs of Xian'ao Village, the Spring Festival is considered the “Little New Year,” and the 18th day of the first month is the “Big New Year.” The “Xian'ao Dragon Parade” has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage of Zhejiang Province and is a unique scene in the local folk customs of Eastern Zhejiang.
