With the golden rapeseed flower fields and the newly opened geological hazard science popularization, the Nanling Village of Sangzhou Town, Ninghai County, ushers in a new chapter of cultural and tourism integration and development. On March 25, the Ninghai branch of the Geological Hazard Science Popularization Museum of Ningbo was open for trial operation. As the first science popularization museum themed on geological hazards in Ninghai County, it marks the innovation and breakthrough of Ningbo in the field of geological hazard science popularization and education.
Reportedly, with a total area of over 500 square meters, the museum is located in the center of the zone for comprehensive treatment of basalt landslide in Nanling Village of Sangzhou Town, which aims to transform professional treatment projects into immersive teaching scenes. Jointly built by Ningbo Natural Resources and Planning Bureau and Ninghai County People’s Government, the museum passed the acceptance inspection smoothly in March this year.
The first day saw a continuous stream of visitors, who, under the guidance of museum guides, experienced simulated scenes in person and learned scientific risk avoidance and self-rescue skills. “There are so many magical devices that children are very interested in. We can stay here for the whole day,” said a Ms. Zhang from Shanghai, whose family were deeply attracted.
The museum launched four themed exhibition areas, including “Tracing the Origins of Life”, “Changes and History of Earth”, “Guarding Nature with Constant Efforts” and “Ecological Civilization and Harmonious Coexistence”, with a variety of display methods such as graphic panels, physical models, interactive installations, and immersive experiences. Meanwhile, by cleverly utilizing such modern technological means as holographic projection and interactive film and television, it explained in simple and understandable terms the knowledge from the Big Bang to the birth of elements, the relationship between the Earth and the Moon, and even the mysterious interior structure of the Earth.
In particular, the museum displays a typical case of treatment of basalt platform landslide in the Nanling Village in details, revealing the scientific methods and practical results of geological disaster control for the public. Besides, a comprehensive display of the unique geological culture of Ningbo (Ninghai County) area is presented, covering the unique charm of Nanxi Hot Spring, the peculiar landforms of Xujiashan basalt platform, and the superb craftsmanship of Wushan Grottoes, which vividly interprets the beautiful scene of harmonious coexistence between geological resources and human life.
It should be noted that the museum is not open to the public on Mondays but is open on weekends and statutory holidays. A reservation 24 hours in advance for weekday visits is required, except for March and April this year.
